Philip Karanja, popularly known as Phil Director, vividly recalls the emotional rollercoaster of being in the delivery room with his ex-wife, Kate Actress, an experience that has left a lasting impact on him and influenced his decision regarding future children.
In a recent interview with friends Abel Mutua, Newson, and Njugush on Judy Nyawira’s YouTube channel, the 37-year-old filmmaker opened up about his reluctance to have another child. Despite being a father to a teenage son and a four-year-old girl, Njeri, whom he shares with Kate Actress, Phil expressed his firm stance against expanding his family further.
During Kate Actress’s pregnancy, Phil harbored a specific wish for the baby to be born at night, a wish that was surprisingly granted. Recalling the delivery room experience, Phil described being asleep when Kate announced her water had broken at 4 am. Although initially confused, Phil and Kate were prepared for the momentous event, waiting for her best friend to arrive.
“I always wanted this child to come at night, a time without hustle. I feared her being in pain.”
Witnessing the birth of their daughter Njeri around 10-11 am, Phil was overcome with emotion, acknowledging the strength of women and vowing to never subject another woman to childbirth again.
“I am never getting another lady pregnant ever again, juu why would I put someone’s daughter through that?” he remarked emphatically.
Phil’s journey into fatherhood began earlier than expected, prompting him to undertake a course on fatherhood to prepare for the responsibilities ahead.
The overwhelming feeling of love upon Njeri’s arrival reinforced his dedication to fatherhood, emphasizing his willingness to do anything for his children.
Currently, Phil is focused on imparting financial literacy to his son, Leon, engaging in joint workout sessions, and cherishing the bond they share. Despite the challenges of the delivery room experience, Phil’s commitment to fatherhood remains unwavering, shaping his perspective on life and love for his children.
