Zanzibar has granted approval to Kenyan low-cost carrier Jambojet to initiate direct flights between Mombasa and the island. Starting from July 1, 2024, the airline will operate four weekly flights on this route, with one-way ticket fares starting from $113.
Jambojet’s Managing Director and CEO, Karanja Ndegwa, expressed that the new route signifies a significant milestone for the airline, coinciding with its upcoming 10th-anniversary celebration in April.
“Since its inception, Jambojet has been focusing on connecting people on underserved or unserved routes. Our decision to launch the Mombasa – Zanzibar route is poised to strengthen relations between the two countries,” said Ndegwa.
Ndegwa added that the decision to establish this route was driven by the growing demand and the pursuit of commercial opportunities within the region.
He highlighted the allure of Zanzibar’s cultural heritage, warmth, and richness, which continue to attract global travellers.
“We are glad to be playing a part in that journey while showcasing Mombasa’s pristine offering as our secondary hub,” added Ndegwa.
Jambojet, a regional low-cost airline, currently operates flights to seven destinations from its primary hub at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
These destinations include Mombasa, Eldoret, Kisumu, Malindi, Ukunda (Diani), Lamu, and Goma in Eastern DRC.
Additionally, the airline operates three routes from its secondary hub in Mombasa – Kisumu, Eldoret, and, starting from July 2024, Zanzibar. Jambojet also conducts cargo operations across its network.
