A dormitory at Mariakani Secondary School in Kilifi County fell victim to a night fire on Saturday, February 3, 2024.

The Kenya Red Cross reported that the fire, which consumed the 150-capacity dormitory, has been successfully contained with the assistance of the county fire brigade team and local community members.

“In response to a fire incident at Mariakani Secondary School in Kilifi County, a 150-capacity dormitory has been affected. The fire has been successfully contained with the support of the county fire brigade team and community members,” stated the Red Cross.

Fortunately, there were no reported casualties, and the Kenya Red Cross will continue to provide psychosocial services at the institution.

“Thankfully, no casualties have been reported. Our team in Kilifi will conduct a needs assessment and provide psychosocial support services,” added the fast responders.

This incident marks the fifth fire response undertaken by the Red Cross team in the last week.
