Samburu County, Kenya – Paul Leshimpiro, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Angata Nanyekie ward, was tragically killed on Sunday, February 25th, 2024.

Leshimpiro was reportedly shot by suspected bandits while traveling home from Maralal town around 11:00 AM. Samburu County Police Commander Thomas Ototo confirmed the incident, stating that the MCA’s driver escaped unharmed.

“The MCA was ambushed by gunmen believed to be from Tiaty,” Mr. Ototo told the Nation. “He was rushed to Morijo Dispensary, but unfortunately succumbed to his gunshot wounds.”

This attack comes amidst a recent surge in banditry activity in the region, particularly affecting areas like Soit Pus, Morijo, and Angata Nanyekie. According to Mr. Ototo, the attackers opened fire at close range.

Authorities have transported Leshimpiro’s body to the Samburu County Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. A police pursuit for the suspects is currently underway, and security measures have been intensified in the area.
