Residents of Bakarani area in Kisauni constituency, Mombasa County, were left in disbelief when thieves managed to break into a mosque and take off with two coffins.

The aluminum coffins were stolen from the Marhaba mosque in Bakarani, as reported by local leader Mohamed Hamid.

The shocking discovery was made on Thursday when preparations were underway for a burial ceremony scheduled to take place at the mosque.

Frere Town Chief Twalib Dola confirmed the incident, revealing that in addition to the stolen coffins, ten iron sheets were also taken. The matter has been reported to the Mbungoni police station.

Dola urged business owners dealing with scrap metals in the vicinity to report any suspicious transactions involving the stolen metallic caskets.

Expressing their deep concern over the unprecedented incident, Hamid mentioned that the mosque plans to hold special prayers condemning those responsible for the theft.
