Police officers from Meru County have successfully recovered a G3 police firearm that had been reported missing since September 2023.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers disclosed that the rifle was found inside the house of a male suspect identified as George Mutembei. The home is located in Ndunyuruma village of Rwarela-Buuri East.

However, it appears that the suspect had caught wind of the police’s operation and managed to evade capture before officers arrived.

In a surprising twist of events, Mutembei left the firearm behind in the possession of his 30-year-old wife, Priscilla Ntinyari.

The DCI further stated that another individual, Joseph Muriungi M’nabea, aged 40, has been arrested as a person of interest in the case. Investigations are currently underway to ascertain any connections he may have with the fugitive.

Authorities suspect Mutembei to be associated with a criminal gang that has previously been detained in connection with the theft of another police firearm, an AK47.
