Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has criticized Siaya Governor James Orengo’s decision to distribute cattle to Siaya residents, urging him instead to support local farmers in rearing dairy cows.
In a statement via X on Sunday, February 18, Khalwale expressed his disagreement with Governor Orengo’s approach, arguing that distributing cows could perpetuate poverty in the region.
“My brother, I mean no harm, but please stop promoting poverty. Support the farmers of Siaya to rear dairy cows,”
Governor Orengo had overseen the distribution of 215 improved cattle breeds to various farmers at Ragegni Primary School, North Uyoma in Siaya on Saturday.
Taking to social media, the governor emphasized the importance of agriculture in the county’s economic, commercial, and industrial development, pledging to allocate resources to sectors that would uplift the livelihoods of Siaya locals.
“Agriculture remains the pillar for our economic, industrial, and commercial transformation. I will ensure most of our resources go towards sectors and value chains that will change the lives of people in the shortest time possible,” Orengo affirmed.
