Three suspected cattle thieves met a grim fate at Okanda village in Bondo on Monday night, as an enraged mob took matters into their own hands and lynched the culprits.
The mob attack also left several others severely injured.
“These suspects, including a butcher, were targeted due to the escalating cases of cattle theft plaguing our community,” reported Assistant Chief Dennis Ojwang’.
According to Ojwang’, the mob’s actions were triggered by a recent incident on Monday where multiple livestock were reported stolen in the area.
“The suspects were flushed out of their hiding places one by one and subsequently lynched,” the administrator added.
In the violent encounter, three individuals identified as David Haya, a butcher, Paul Otieno Wauda, and Walori Oyato unfortunately lost their lives, while several others sustained serious injuries.
Confirming the disturbing incident, the local administrator emphasized that those injured are currently receiving medical treatment at Bondo sub-county hospital.
Meanwhile, the deceaseds’ bodies have been transferred to the mortuary within the same facility.
