Two middle-aged men tragically lost their lives on Monday, February 19, while working on a building in the Makutano area of Meru County. The two fell from a crane they were using to paint the building’s fourth floor after it developed a mechanical fault.

According to initial reports, the crane broke down, causing the fatal incident. Ezekiel Chepkony, the North Imenti OCPD, confirmed the occurrence, stating that the crane, carrying three people, malfunctioned on Monday afternoon, resulting in all three occupants falling.

Sadly, two of the men died at the scene, while the third man survived the fall and is currently receiving treatment for his injuries at a local medical facility.

Chepkony mentioned that an investigation is underway to determine whether the contractor had adhered to the necessary safety standards.

“Kwa sasa hatuwezi kusema makosa ilikuwa wapi lakini uchunguzi unaendelea,” Chepkony said. [At the moment, we cannot pinpoint where the fault lies, but investigations are ongoing].

“Once completed, we will know the truth and take appropriate legal action if anyone is found at fault,” he added.
