At least 11 Kenyatta University students tragically lost their lives in a horrific road accident involving their school bus and a trailer, as confirmed by Voi Sub-county Police Commander Ibrahim Daffala.

Daffala reported that 10 students died at the scene, with another succumbing to injuries in the hospital. Additionally, 42 students sustained severe injuries, while four suffered minor wounds.

“The accident occurred during heavy rainfall. The trailer attempted to veer off the road to avoid a head-on collision, resulting in the accident,” Daffala explained.

Photographs shared on social media show the school bus impacted on its left side.

The incident took place in Maungu, Voi, located in Taita Taveta county, along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway. The school bus, carrying public health students on an academic trip to Mombasa, collided with a trailer en route to Nairobi.

With a total of 58 passengers aboard the school bus, four students managed to escape unharmed and were taken to Maungu Police Station for further proceedings. The injured occupants were promptly rushed to Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi for medical attention.
