Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued an apology to former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta for what he described as negative politicking during the 2022 General Elections.

Speaking from his residence in Karen on Monday, Gachagua appealed to Kenya’s first lady to forgive the political community for the mudslinging she endured during the campaign period.

“I apologize for dragging Mama Ngina Kenyatta into the politics of the last general elections. She is our mother. Therefore, on behalf of our team, I ask for forgiveness for any inconvenience caused to her. I will not tolerate anyone disrespecting her or anyone from our region,” Gachagua stated in an interview with Kameme TV.

He further expressed sentiments towards former President Uhuru Kenyatta, referring to him as “our son.” Gachagua highlighted their 17 years of working together, acknowledging a brief disagreement period of two years.

He further emphasized that those disagreements are now in the past, extending prayers for Uhuru’s retirement. Gachagua affirmed Uhuru’s belongingness to their community, stating, “Uhuru is one of us. We will engage with everyone.”

Additionally, the Deputy President urged leaders to prioritize unity within the Mount Kenya Region and the nation as a whole.
