Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja has refuted claims suggesting that he was pressured to withdraw from the race for the Nairobi United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party chairmanship.
Reports had surfaced indicating that some party officials had urged Sakaja to step down from the race, a claim that the governor acknowledged being aware of.
However, during a Thursday morning interview, Sakaja asserted that he remains steadfast in the race and refuses to yield to any form of pressure.
“I’m not a leader who succumbs to pressure. If there was pressure, I would not have been governor of Nairobi,” he stated firmly.
Addressing the alleged pressure, Sakaja emphasized his commitment to fostering unity within the party.
He affirmed, “What I have said as a leader in this city is that I want a united party. Everyone in Nairobi should come to the field, and we’ll face each other to create a strong party.”
Sakaja had publicly declared his candidacy for the Nairobi chairmanship position in the United Democratic Alliance party during a meeting with UDA Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) on April 19.
The MCAs expressed their support for him ahead of the party’s grassroots elections, scheduled to commence on April 26 and conclude on August 24.
