Terminal 1E at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been temporarily shut down following a fire that erupted in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to a statement released by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), the fire was triggered by an electrical failure but was swiftly brought under control, with no reported injuries.
As a precautionary measure, KAA has decided to keep the terminal closed until further notice, with all flight operations being rerouted to Terminal 1A.
The authority in the statement further emphasized its commitment to prioritizing the safety and security of passengers, staff, and stakeholders at its facilities.
“KAA is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all passengers, staff, and stakeholders at our facilities and is taking all necessary steps to minimize disruptions and return to normal operations as swiftly as possible,” the statement read.
