John Matara, the main suspect in the murder of socialite Starlet Wahu, is expected to appear before the Ruiru law courts to face new charges of rape and robbery with violence.
The new charges come just a month after he was charged with Wahu’s murder in the High Court in Nairobi.
Matara previously denied the murder charges before Justice Kanyi Kimondo on February 2 and was remanded at Industrial Area prison. The decision to charge him with rape and robbery with violence follows a police investigation prompted by complaints from several women in the Kasarani area.
Wahu’s body was found at an apartment in the South B area in January where she checked in with Matara. A post-mortem examination revealed she had been strangled, and a deep-cut wound on her thigh had severed a crucial vein, leading to significant blood loss that caused her death.
Detectives suspect Matara had a confrontation with Wahu before overpowering and killing her. Following his arrest, numerous women came forward with complaints, alleging they were also victims of Matara.
