A car belonging to one of the four men murdered together with popular social media influencer Frank Obegi two years ago has been in police custody all along, sauce.co.ke can reveal today.
The car, a white Honda Fit registration number KCL 233G belonging to Elijah Omeka has been at the Lucky Summer Police Station in Dandora after it was found abandoned within the same year the four friends were murdered.
Omeka, a PHD student at Kenyatta University was kidnapped on June 16 along the Eastern Bypass in Nairobi.
His body was found at a field in Machakos days later. Obegi and Mokaya’s bodies were found at a forest in Lari while Amenya was found dead in Magadi.
One key component that would have helped in solving the four murders was Omeka’s car. A forensic examination on the car or CCTV footage of the vehicle’s movements would have greatly assisted investigators with clues on who was behind the deaths of the four friends.
Yet in the last 22 months, the whereabouts of the car have remained a mystery just as who wanted Obegi, Omeka, Mokaya and Amenya dead.
Interestingly, Omeka’s car has been sitting at a police station all along. No one knows who took the car to Lucky Summer Police Station and the officers there have not bothered to locate its owners.
This is despite the fact that a simple search on the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) would have directed the police to the car’s owner and probably jumpstart investigations.
The four close friends mysteriously disappeared from different locations on the same day within Nairobi before their mutilated bodies were found decomposing days later.
Obegi and Obare were kidnapped in Roysambu, Mokaya in Kasarani and Omeka while driving along the Eastern Bypass.
The quartet had been accused of being behind credit and cryptocurrency fraud mostly targeting victims outside the country, with reports indicating that just before they disappeared, they had fleeced their last victim of Sh1 million in bitcoin.
The bodies of Obegi and Obare were found in Lari while the badly mutilated body of Mokaya was discovered in Magadi.
Omeka’s body was found days later at a field in Machakos with one of his legs cut off and rib cage busted open by what appeared to be sharp object.
Since then, the police have never told Kenyans who kidnapped and killed the four close friends and investigations have seemingly run cold.
