President William Ruto has called for the compensation for farmers who fell victim to the distribution of counterfeit fertiliser.

In remarks made on Monday, the President emphasized the responsibility of the company implicated in the distribution of the fake fertiliser to reimburse affected farmers. He further assured farmers of the government’s commitment to providing authentic fertiliser.

“Every farmer will get the correct fertiliser. Those few people who want to take advantage of food production, the company that was involved, should compensate farmers who bought fake fertiliser and they should be given new fertilisers free of charge,” Ruto stated.

Ruto also announced plans to lower fertiliser prices further to support farmers. These comments were made during his attendance at the commissioning of the Cemtech Limited Clinker Plant in West Pokot.

Earlier, President Ruto made an unannounced visit to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) Eldoret Depot, where he reiterated the government’s stance on prosecuting individuals engaged in the sale of counterfeit fertiliser.

He issued a stern warning to those involved in such fraudulent activities, asserting that they would face arrest and prosecution.
