Four bodies suspected to be flood victims have been recovered from Mathare River following heavy rains in Nairobi on Tuesday. Starehe Sub-county Police Commander Fred Abuga said that the deceased include two men and two women.
Abuga also mentioned that six other individuals are still missing as search and rescue operations continue in Mathare. Over six people were reported missing on Tuesday morning due to the heavy downpour that hit the city and its surroundings.
The search and rescue efforts are being coordinated by the Nairobi County Government and the Kenya Red Cross.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Red Cross Action Team has rescued 18 people, including 11 adults and 7 children, in Mradi, Mathare 4A. They were stranded due to floodwaters caused by heavy rains overnight in Nairobi.
Various parts of Nairobi experienced heavy rainfall, leading to flash floods in several areas including Mukuru, Mathare, Huruma, Ruaraka, Baba Dogo, Bosnia, Umoja 3, Choka, Njiru, Ruai, Utawala, Githurai, Kahawa, Eastern Bypass, Kinoo, Kijabe, Limuru, Ruiru, Graceland, Joska, Kaswito, Kicheko, Mangili, Kenyatta Road, Juja, Kitengela, and Magadi.
