Kisii Governor Simba Arati has taken a decisive step in response to alleged misconduct by the Kisii County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO), Catherine Njue. Arati filed a formal complaint with the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), accusing Njue of abusing her office and conspiring to obstruct justice.
Arati’s action comes after he became aware of an online audio clip purportedly featuring Njue and other officers discussing plans to plant weapons at his residence and at the homes of individuals believed to support him. The Governor believes that these plans were formulated in February, following his attendance at the funeral of the late Kisii National Polytechnic Principal, Daniel Nyariki.
Expressing concern over the matter, Arati highlighted Njue’s alleged dissemination of a list comprising 14 individuals associated with him. These individuals sought legal recourse by obtaining temporary conservatory orders from the Kisii High Court.
Given the apparent threats to the safety and security of county residents, Arati deemed it necessary to escalate the issue to the DCI for appropriate intervention. Arati’s legal representatives, James Orengo and Otiende Amolo, emphasized the challenging environment in which the Governor operates. They suggested that certain government officials in Kisii, backed by national authorities, are employing security forces to hinder Arati’s efforts to serve the people who elected him in August 2022.
