Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia has nominated Linda Kiome as his Deputy Governor. Kiome previously ran as the gubernatorial running mate of former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi in the 2022 general elections under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party. The duo, however, lost to the now-impeached governor, Kawira Mwangaza.
Kiome’s nomination is subject to vetting by members of the Meru County Assembly before she can officially assume office.
A seasoned Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and Commissioner of Oaths, Kiome is a Senior Partner at Charles Kariuki and Kiome Law Firm. In February 2025, she was appointed Vice Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel by President William Ruto.
Before her involvement in electoral matters, Kiome served as a legal advisor to former Governor Kawira Mwangaza. However, their professional relationship ended following a fallout.
Her nomination comes at a critical time for Meru County, following leadership changes triggered by Mwangaza’s impeachment.
