A 16-year-old boy has died after being attacked by a crocodile in River Chepkulo, Bomet County.
According to area police chief Panton Analo, the incident occurred in Tuiyobei, Chepalungu.
The victim, a Form 3 student at Nogirwet Secondary School, was dragged approximately five meters into a deeper section of the river. He sustained severe injuries, including deep wounds on his left foot and toes, as well as significant trauma to his chest and thighs.
His body was later retrieved and taken to Longisa Hospital Mortuary for further examination.
Area chief Tulmat remarked that such incidents are unprecedented in the region. He speculated that the crocodiles may have strayed from the Maasai Mara Game Reserve in search of food.
Following the tragedy, a team from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) visited the site to investigate the incident, as the local community seeks answers and reassurances regarding their safety.
