A multi-agency team has arrested two suspects near the Kanyonyo area in Kitui County for illegally transporting donkey meat and skins in a saloon car.

The suspects are currently being held at Kanyonyo Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court.

Concerned residents have called on authorities to intensify patrols, fearing that donkey meat could be secretly sold to unsuspecting consumers.

The illegal donkey meat trade has become a growing concern across multiple counties, with Kirinyaga also reporting similar cases.

Just last month, police in Embu intercepted a vehicle transporting 1,500 kilograms of donkey meat to an unknown destination, leading to the driver’s arrest.
