Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo have intensified discussions surrounding former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s potential 2027 presidential bid.
Governor Nyaribo, who leads the United Progressive Alliance (UPA)—a party closely linked to Matiang’i before the 2022 general election—is playing a key role in the push to position him as a presidential contender.
The meeting between Kioni and Nyaribo is part of a series of political engagements among leaders keen on rallying support for Matiang’i.
Both Jubilee and UPA have expressed interest in fielding Matiang’i as their preferred candidate. However, the latest talks suggest a broader plan to consolidate political backing and form a united front ahead of the election.
“Early morning deliberations with H.E. Governor Nyaribo, Party Leader of UPA and Governor of the great County of Nyamira,” Kioni posted on his X account.
He further stated that their discussions focused on the state of the country, national discourse, and the leadership of their preferred candidate, Fred Matiang’i.
“A timely and critical conversation on the future of our country,” he added.
Weekly Strategy Meetings to Boost Matiang’i’s Presidential Bid
Kioni also revealed that a coalition of political parties from the Kisii and Mt. Kenya regions backing Matiang’i will hold weekly strategy meetings to fine-tune their campaign efforts.
Speaking to The Star, Kioni disclosed that at least 20 political parties have intensified consultations to consolidate support for Matiang’i’s anticipated campaign launch.
“The political climate is encouraging, and we have agreed to continue holding weekly consultations while broadening our engagements to strengthen support for Matiang’i,” Kioni noted.
He emphasized that grassroots mobilization will be central to their strategy, urging every party involved to expand its influence nationally.
Although Matiang’i has yet to formally declare his candidacy, pressure is mounting on him to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.
With growing political goodwill and increased strategic planning, his potential presidential run is quickly shaping up to be one of the most anticipated political developments in the country.
