JKIA-Adani deal whistleblower Nelson Amenya has made fresh allegations, this time raising the alarm over the controversial construction of eco camps within the Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary.
In a new dossier released to the public, Amenya claimed that the wife of a senior United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Member of Parliament is behind the forest development project. He alleged that portions of the protected forest land have been annexed and repurposed for the construction of hotels, which are allegedly intended to host guests during the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
“The project is being disguised as an eco-friendly initiative, but in reality, it’s a high-end commercial venture targeting AFCON tourism revenue,” Amenya stated.
These revelations follow closely on the heels of mounting concern from the Green Belt Movement (GBM), an environmental watchdog, which questioned the government’s decision to green-light hotel and eco-camp developments within the protected area. The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) recently named the licensed investor behind the project, only after initially halting construction due to legal and environmental objections.
The dossier has intensified public scrutiny and renewed calls for transparency in how forest land is allocated and used, particularly in light of Kenya’s commitments to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
As pressure mounts, both KFS and government officials are expected to address the allegations and clarify the legal standing of the project.
