Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nakuru County have launched investigations into the mysterious death of Reverend John Maina, a Catholic priest attached to the Diocese of Nyahururu.
Rev. Maina, who recently hosted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, was found dead on Thursday, May 15, near the Kikopey area along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway in Gilgil Constituency. His body was discovered roughly 50 meters from Igwamiti Catholic Church, where he served.
According to Gilgil DCI head Rahamad Wasilwa, preliminary findings suggest the body may have been dumped at the location, raising concerns that the priest could have been killed elsewhere.
The priest remained unidentified until his family arrived and confirmed his identity. His body has been moved to St. Benedict’s Mission Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
The DCI has not ruled out foul play and is pursuing multiple leads as part of their investigation.
