A Form Three student was killed and her younger brother seriously injured following a brutal attack at their home in Olando village, Homa Bay County.

The victim, identified as Alphins Opuodho, was a student at St Joseph’s Olando Mixed Secondary School. She was reportedly stabbed to death around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday by a man believed to be her boyfriend. Authorities suspect a disagreement between the two earlier in the day may have led to the attack.

According to Kibwer Sub-location Assistant Chief Richard Okinyi, the suspect broke into the house where Alphins and her younger brother, a Grade Six pupil, were sleeping. He allegedly stabbed the girl in the back and head before turning on her brother, injuring him on the hand, abdomen, and head.

Neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion and took both siblings to Magunga Level Four Hospital. Alphins was pronounced dead on arrival, while her brother was admitted for treatment.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who fled the scene after the attack.
