Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been prevented from holding the launch of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, originally scheduled for June 4, 2025.

The government, acting through Sports Kenya, revoked the previously confirmed booking. They cited “prior bookings by sports teams” and stated that the venue would no longer accept any bookings due to preparations for the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) CHAN 2025 tournament.

In response, DCP Secretary General Hezron Obaga condemned the cancellation in a statement released on Tuesday, describing it as an “affront to democracy” and attributing it to what the party calls increasing state interference.

The party also referenced the recent disorder during its unveiling earlier this month, asserting that it has been deliberately targeted.

Following the setback, the party has postponed its launch and is now seeking a private venue to hold the event.
