It’s been one week since the disappearance of Ndiangui Kinyagia, a 35-year-old IT expert and activist known for his vocal support of the Gen Z-led June 25 protests and his presence on X (formerly Twitter) via the account @DaguinDd. His whereabouts remain unknown, and fears over his safety continue to escalate.

Kinyagia was last seen on June 21, and is widely believed to have been abducted by individuals allegedly linked to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). He had been active in mobilising online support for the nationwide protests that saw thousands of young Kenyans demand economic justice and accountability from the Kenya Kwanza government.

“If Ndiangui is accused of any crime, he must be presented in court and not held incommunicado,” said Amnesty International Kenya in a statement posted on X.

The hashtag #FreeNdianguiKinyagia has since gained traction across social media platforms, as Kenyans and rights groups demand answers from the government. His family, still in anguish and uncertainty, is calling for his immediate release or lawful arraignment.

Despite mounting public pressure, no official statement has been issued by the Ministry of Interior, the DCI, or the National Police Service. Civil society leaders are now warning that Kinyagia’s case may signal a dangerous trend of enforced disappearances targeting vocal youth activists.

Kinyagia’s last posts criticized police brutality and praised the spirit of peaceful protest, urging Gen Zs to remain “bold, unbought, and unbowed.”
