Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki faced a hostile reception during an empowerment event in Othaya, Nyeri County, as a section of the crowd chanted “one term” slogans from outside the stadium’s perimeter fence. The incident occurred as Kindiki addressed attendees inside the venue.
Security officers quickly intervened to disperse the youth outside the stadium, and more police were deployed to maintain order while the event continued.
During his speech, DP Kindiki appeared to direct a thinly veiled attack at his predecessor, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing unnamed leaders of intimidating others in the region.
“Haya mambo ya viongozi kuja kutisha viongozi wengine, yakome! Lazima tuheshimiane… heshima si utumwa…” Kindiki declared.
“Huwezi kuja hapa nikama wewe tu ndio kiongozi unajua kila kitu… ati wewe ndio unafaa kusikizwa… kwani wewe ni Mungu?”
Despite the tension, Kindiki reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Earlier in the day, Kindiki met with Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire at his official Karen residence. The meeting followed public speculation about a possible fallout between the two leaders, sparked by Mbarire’s outburst during the Madaraka Day celebrations in Embu.
“We have no differences with leaders or the people of Embu. Those trying to bring differences — we have no differences,” Kindiki said, downplaying any rift.
