A suspect in the high-profile murder case of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were left the Milimani Law Courts in shock on Wednesday, June 4, after issuing a chilling threat against a State prosecutor during a bail hearing.
Ebel Ochieng Kalo, a prominent United Democratic Alliance (UDA) official and a Board member at the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA), is currently in custody over the fatal shooting of the MP, which occurred on April 30, 2025, near the City Mortuary roundabout along Ngong Road in Nairobi.
During the court session, as his bail application was being considered, Kalo openly threatened Allen Mulama, an officer from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), prompting the prosecutor to exit the courtroom for his safety.
Kalo reportedly said, “Huyu tutamuua,” Swahili for “We will kill him,” in reference to Mulama.
Stunned by the brazen threat, Justice Diana Kavedza immediately dismissed the suspect’s request for bail or bond.
“I take note that the accused person has threatened to kill the prosecutor. The question is, what about the witnesses? On these grounds, the three are denied bond/bail,” Justice Kavedza ruled.
Ebel Ochieng Kalo, along with his two co-accused, will remain in custody at the Nairobi Remand Prison until June 17, when the case will be mentioned and further directions provided.
