A man in Bokoma village, Kerina, Kisii County, has been arrested and charged with murder after his 17-year-old daughter died from injuries sustained during a brutal beating on June 24.
The teenager had travelled from her school in Homa Bay County for the half-term break, arriving home on June 22. According to police reports, her father allegedly accused her of being drunk and launched a vicious assault that left her unconscious.
“He claimed he was disciplining her, but the incident escalated fatally,” said a local police source familiar with the investigation.
The girl was rushed to a nearby health facility, but doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. Medical staff reported visible injuries on her thigh, buttocks, left wrist, and right leg. Blood was also oozing from her nose, indicating possible internal trauma.
The father’s explanation to doctors that he was “disciplining” her prompted immediate suspicion, and police were notified. Officers from the Kisii County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended the suspect at his home shortly after.
The minor’s body has been transferred to a local mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the full extent of the injuries.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
This incident adds to the growing concern over rising cases of domestic violence and child abuse in Kenya. The Ministry of Gender and Social Services continues to advocate for stricter enforcement of laws protecting minors.
