A police officer attached to Tembelio Police Post in Ainabkoi Sub-county, Uasin Gishu County, has been arrested following a tragic midnight shooting at Kokwet Bar, a popular pub in the Jua Kali area of Turbo.
According to Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi, the officer allegedly confronted his girlfriend, the bar’s owner, accusing her of infidelity. The situation escalated when another man tried to intervene, prompting the officer to open fire.
“The officer used his official firearm during the confrontation. Both the woman and the man were fatally shot at the scene,” Mwanthi confirmed to local reporters.
Fellow officers from Turbo Police Station responded swiftly to the scene, disarmed the officer, and took him into custody. He is currently detained at a local police station in Eldoret as investigations begin into what authorities are calling a suspected love triangle homicide.
The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary in Eldoret for postmortem examinations.
This tragic incident has left residents in shock and raised renewed concerns about the misuse of firearms by law enforcement officers in Kenya. It also underscores the urgent need for mental health support and conflict resolution training within the police service.
