A male student at Mount Kenya University (MKU) main campus in Thika is under investigation after being caught allegedly recording female students taking showers in their residence hall.
The incident unfolded late Thursday night when female students in one of the campus hostels noticed a smartphone positioned over a shower stall partition. The victims quickly raised an alarm, alerting surrounding residents and campus security personnel who rushed to the scene and apprehended the suspect before he could escape.
University security guards confiscated the suspect’s mobile device to preserve potential evidence before handing him over to local police officers for formal questioning and processing.
The disturbing breach of privacy has sparked outrage across the Thika campus, with students calling on university management to enforce stricter access controls in residential areas, increase security patrols, and repair lighting around female hostels to ensure safety.
Local authorities and MKU administration have initiated a full investigation into the incident, and formal legal charges are expected to be filed once forensic analysis of the confiscated phone is complete.
