Mercy Makini, the estranged wife of activist and politician Morara Kebaso, has broken her silence to address ongoing public speculation surrounding their marriage, court cases, and claims of polygamy.
In a statement released on social media, Makini clarified that she voluntarily walked away from their marriage on March 2, 2026, after seven years, citing allegations of domestic violence. Her statement comes after Morara publicly identified her as one of his wives alongside his new partner.
“First, I walked away because of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE,” Makini stated, accusing Morara of physical assault during their marriage, including while she was pregnant. “Society only appreciates a woman when they walk out of a marriage dead; I chose to walk out alive.”
Clear Boundary on Polygamy Claims
Addressing Morara’s recent public statements labeling himself as a polygamous man, Makini firmly distanced herself from his narrative.
“As for this talk about polygamy, please stop creating the impression that I am still part of your life. Polygamy is your business, not mine. I left. I moved on. I am living my life,” she wrote.
Legal Dispute and Public Narrative
Makini also pushed back against claims surrounding their legal disputes, clarifying that Morara was the one who initiated court proceedings against her.
“Should I address the court case? Not now. But for the record, you are the one who sued me. I only responded. I have the documents to prove it should that conversation ever become necessary,” Makini noted, emphasizing that she kept quiet for seven years to protect their privacy before being forced to defend her name.
The former couple married when Morara was 21 years old and share three children together.
