A human skeleton discovered within the compound of Kenyatta University’s Kitui Campus in Kwa Vonza has been preliminarily identified as belonging to a missing 22-year-old woman.
Herder Makes Grim Discovery
The remains were found by a herder tending goats near the university grounds, who immediately alerted local security personnel.
Police officers responded to the scene and recovered a dress, skirt, and a yellow biker, which were positively identified by relatives as those belonging to Nzambi Valesi Ndumbu, who was reported missing in May 2025.
Body Moved for Forensic Examination
The skeletal remains were moved to a local mortuary, where a forensic autopsy will be conducted to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death. Investigators have not ruled out foul play.
Kitui County police say investigations are ongoing to piece together Nzambi’s last known movements and possible circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
Public Appeal for Information
Authorities are urging anyone with information that might assist in the investigation to come forward.
Nzambi’s disappearance had caused concern among family and local community members, especially given the location of the discovery — within an academic institution’s compound.
