Investigative report reveals misconduct & grooming allegations by male teacher at Alliance Girls

A deeply disturbing investigative report has thrown Alliance Girls High School, one of Kenya’s most elite institutions, into controversy after revealing decades of alleged sexual grooming and misconduct by a long-serving teacher — a scandal made worse by the silent complicity of the systems meant to protect the students.

The four-year investigation by Nairobi-based independent journalism platform Africa Uncensored unmasked Peter Ayiro, a trusted teacher who held influential roles as patron of the Christian Union, drama club, and several mentorship programs.

Despite his role as one who is supposed to mentor, Ayiro comes out as the central figure in a troubling pattern of inappropriate relationships with students spanning more than 20 years.

When the story came to light, Ayori tried to gag Christine Mungai, the investigative reporter, and Africa Uncensored which is synonymous with celebrated journalist John-Allen Namu.

The injuction through Ayiro’s lawyers sought to temporarily and permanently bar the media house from publishing the investigative report.

However, after many months fighting the gag orders, the media house won. The shocking revelations about a once trusted teacher now turned predator now find themselves in the light.

And as the good bible says in Matthew 10:26 says, “So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known“.

And so it came to pass, Mr. Peter Ayiro’s deeds have been exposed…and the findings are shocking!

A Persona Beyond Reproach

According to the findings, Ayiro used his carefully crafted image as a devout born-again Christian and spiritual mentor to ingratiate himself with students, developing emotionally charged, often overly intimate relationships that blurred professional and personal boundaries.

The teacher in question held various trusted positions such as patron of the Christian Union and drama club, and is alleged to have developed close, at times emotionally entangling, relationships with multiple students

Insiders revealed that Ayiro’s status within the school’s religious and academic spaces made it nearly impossible for students or staff to openly question his conduct.

Many described him as so convincing in his Christian leadership that suspicion rarely, if ever, arose.

Such was his alleged closeness to the minors such that he went as far as marrying a former student — now a researcher working abroad — who is now reportedly divorcing him.

It is not known if the divorce resulted from his shocking and now exposed past.

Former students described consistent grooming tactics including: bestowing special attention on certain girls, granting them privileges, organizing frequent private meetings, and offering spiritually loaded compliments like “uniquely gifted” or “spiritually chosen.”

These emotional manipulations left students feeling elevated yet isolated — discouraged from voicing discomfort or doubts.

Escalating Misconduct Beyond Graduation

Several accounts detailed how Ayiro maintained persistent communication with students long after they graduated.

Private text messages would continue for years, often escalating into suggestive language and requests for private meetings.

One former student recounted how, during the COVID-19 lockdown, Ayiro picked her up for a walk that ended in sexual contact inside his car and later in his house within the school compound.

Another shared how she was invited to his home just weeks after turning 18, under the guise of preparing for a mentorship program — a meeting that also led to a sexual encounter.

Institutional Protection and Complicity

What makes these revelations particularly damning is the extent of institutional inaction.

The report details how Ayiro’s closeness to the school administration — particularly a former principal — allowed him to override rules.

These special powers allowed him to excuse students from evening study preps, and even organize for private gatherings.

Teachers admitted to noticing questionable dynamics between Ayiro and students, but refrained from reporting him out of fear, futility, or an awareness of his untouchable status.

Efforts to formally raise concerns in 2018 and 2021 were dismissed or deflected by the administration.

A former chaplain disclosed how she personally flagged his behavior, but her warnings went unheeded.

Some staff resorted to privately warning students but avoided official action, while school leadership trivialized his conduct as eccentric but harmless. And again, whether the school board of management was aware remains to be unknown.

The report also reveals that Ayiro’s influence extended beyond the school gates, particularly through his association with Kingdom Life Centre (KLC) — a church led by his father, Pastor Aggrey Ayiro.

Several former students reported encountering him within church networks years after graduation, with some discovering they had both been romantically approached by him.

As a matter of fact, in 2021, news of an extramarital affair between the teacher and a former student had reportedly reached the leadership of the KLC.

Despite this damning revelation, he remained in his post, continuing to play a prominent role in both the school and its Christian Union (C.U.).

A Pattern of Grooming

The investigation uncovered a clear, calculated pattern in Ayiro’s conduct.

He would draw vulnerable students into emotionally intimate “inner circles,” often during periods of grief, academic stress, or personal struggle.

Under the guise of spiritual mentorship, he cultivated emotional dependence.

Private messages reviewed by investigators revealed Ayiro addressing students with endearments like “my heartbeat” and “special one.”

The lines between pastoral care and romantic affection were deliberately blurred, leaving students confused, ashamed, and hesitant to speak out.

Not an Isolated Failure for Alliance Girls High School

The scandal is not the first safeguarding crisis at Alliance Girls which forces many to ask whether this high-performing school is intent on bringing up good career women and protecting its learners…or is just focused on maintaining good grades and its good reputation.

This is because of a troubling incident that occurred a few years ago, but wasn’t reported on time.

In June 2023, a night guard, Daniel Pango, employed by Ideal Security Company, was arrested on allgeations of defiling a 16-year-old student.

The incident, which occurred on June 20, was unfortunately only reported to authorities a week later.

An identification parade confirmed the guard’s identity and he was taken into custody. The student was examined at Wangige Hospital, where medical evidence confirmed defilement.

These repeated failures raise troubling questions about the effectiveness of Alliance Girls’ safeguarding systems, its responsiveness to complaints, and the broader culture within elite Kenyan schools that enables such violations through silence and institutional protectionism.

A Legal and Moral Obligation

Under Kenyan law, sexual relations between a teacher and a student under 18 are strictly prohibited.

The Sexual Offences Act criminalizes abuse of authority, including grooming and inappropriate conduct by teachers, carrying a minimum sentence of 10 years imprisonment.

Consent from a minor is also legally invalid. This therefore legally forbids any form of sexual contact with minors.

The law also mandates reporting obligations for institutions and vicarious liability for bodies like the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Ministry of Education if they fail to act on safeguarding violations.

The Kenyan Constitution’s Article 53 further guarantees every child protection from abuse and harmful practices.

Despite these legal frameworks, this case illustrates a systemic failure: a school that failed to act on warning signs, religious networks that shielded the accused, and regulators that ignored complaints for years.

Where to Report

Students facing safeguarding violations can report cases to trusted teachers, school heads, TSC regional offices, the Ministry of Education, or directly to police stations. They can also inform their parents who are expected to take it up the legal system.

Additionally, the Child Helpline Kenya (116) offers confidential reporting services.

In previous cases, courts have prosecuted predatory teachers and held institutions liable for negligence.

However, enforcement remains inconsistent, especially within communities with strong cultural systems that encourage alternative dispute resolution or in cases where influence and reputational concerns often stifle accountability.

This however denies justice to the affected boys and girls who have to live with the sad reality that their innocence has been taken away.

A Failed System and Denied the Learners their Voice

Following the Africa Uncensored exposé, some former students and alumni have come forward demanding immediate investigations and calling for Peter Ayiro’s removal from the school and separation from vulnerable learners.

But beyond individual punishment, this case shines a harsh spotlight on how easily safeguarding systems can collapse when power, silence, and misplaced reverence shield perpetrators.

The lesson here is urgent: no teacher, pastor, or authority figure has the right to exploit their position, and no institution should ever enable such abuse through inaction. Students must be empowered to recognize grooming, inappropriate behavior, and safeguarding violations — and report them without fear of retaliation or dismissal.

The law is clear, and the systems exist. It’s the will to enforce them consistently that has failed.

As one alumna from the 2006 class said, “It’s so crazy that everyone saw it but people are only starting to speak now. It makes you wonder what our young ones go through but they don’t have the voice to speak out. I hope everyone gets justice.”

This should serve as a call to every school, religious institution, and safeguarding body: listen when children speak. Protect them. Act. And never again let silence be the reason abuse thrives.

We can only pray and hope that the affected learners will get justice.
