A man is in police custody after he brought his wife to a Githurai hospital with a stab wound, only for her to be pronounced dead on arrival, in a suspected case of domestic murder.
The incident occurred on the night of Sunday, June 29, 2025, in the Kasarani area, Nairobi. The deceased, identified as Ruth Wangare, had a deep stab wound on the upper left side of her stomach, according to initial medical assessments.
She was rushed to St John’s Hospital, but doctors confirmed that she had succumbed to her injuries before arrival.
Upon being notified, Kasarani police officers responded and escorted the man back to his residence. A kitchen knife with a pink handle was recovered from the house and is believed to be the murder weapon, investigators said.
“The knife has been collected as evidence and will undergo forensic analysis,” a police officer told the press.
The man, whose identity has been withheld, was arrested on the spot and is being held pending investigations and a post-mortem on Wangare’s body, which was taken to the mortuary.
Police have confirmed that the man has not yet explained the circumstances that led to the fatal stabbing. Investigators suspect murder and are treating the case as a possible domestic violence incident.
“He has remained tight-lipped so far. We are pursuing all leads to establish what transpired that night,” officers said.
