A man in Mabera, Kuria sub-county of Migori County has shocked residents after he allegedly drowned his five-year-old daughter in a family borehole before taking his own life.

The tragic incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, July 16, in Nyawaitanchira village, police confirmed.

According to police, the suspect—Thomas Chacha—grabbed his daughter and threw her into a 40-foot borehole within their homestead.

Family members who were present rushed to try and save the child, but she was already dead by the time they retrieved her body.

By then, the man had sneaked back to the house and hanged himself using a rope that was found tied around his neck.

Both bodies were moved to a local mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
