A tragic fire incident in Kogocho village, Ahero, in Kisumu County, has claimed the life of a three-year-old boy, while his twin sister narrowly survived. The incident occurred on Tuesday, when the children were reportedly left alone at home as their parents went to work.

Police said the fire began after a mattress the twins were lying on caught fire, quickly engulfing the room. The young boy was killed on the spot, while his sister was rescued and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

“The minor was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations,” police said.

The heartbreaking tragedy has sparked concerns about child safety, particularly when young children are left unattended. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire, with early reports indicating the possibility of a faulty electrical appliance or candle.

Local authorities and child welfare advocates are urging parents and guardians to avoid leaving minors unsupervised, even for short periods.
