Mai Mahiu, Kenya – August 10, 2025 – Tragedy struck on the Mai Mahiu–Narok highway on the night of Saturday, August 9, when an ENA Coach bus was involved in a fatal road accident, leaving two people — a woman and a minor — dead.
How the Crash Happened
According to a statement from ENA Coach, the bus, registration number KDE 279Q, was travelling from Nairobi to Kehancha with 47 passengers and three crew members when the crash occurred at around 11:00 p.m.
The bus was descending the escarpment near the historic Catholic church when a truck lost its brakes. The truck first collided with two vehicles ahead before ramming into the bus from behind.
The impact caused the bus to veer off the road and overturn, leading to multiple casualties.
Rescue Efforts and Injuries
Several passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals by St. John Ambulance rescue teams, police officers, and members of the public.
Most of the injured have since been treated, cleared, and discharged, while others remain under medical observation.

Road Safety Concerns
The accident has once again raised concerns over brake failures in heavy trucks along the steep Mai Mahiu escarpment, a known blackspot for serious crashes.
Transport safety advocates are urging the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to intensify inspections and ensure all vehicles plying the route are mechanically sound.
