George Natembeya Rules Out Joining Kenya Kwanza, Pushes Tawe Movement Unity

Trans Nzoia County, Kenya – Thursday, August 28, 2025 — Governor George Natembeya has firmly ruled out joining the Kenya Kwanza administration, declaring instead that he will strengthen his Tawe Movement to unite communities in the Western region.

Natembeya Rejects Kenya Kwanza Alliance

Speaking in Kiminini, Natembeya emphasized that poor leadership has long sidelined the Western region in national development by failing to champion the interests of the people.

“Our vote has only benefitted leaders from other regions, and they are now pushing development to their areas,” he said.

His remarks followed speculation that several Kenya Kwanza allies, including Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, have been lobbying him to switch political allegiance to the ruling coalition.

Natembeya, however, insisted that the Luhya community must chart its own destiny through unity and self-determination rather than relying on outsiders.

Western Region’s Development Concerns

The Trans Nzoia governor lamented that despite the Western region’s significant contribution to national taxes, it continues to lag behind in infrastructure and investment.

Natembeya pointed to his advocacy efforts, citing recent promotions in the disciplined forces where officers from the region were elevated.

“I am glad to see some of our people now in higher ranks. This is the way to go—Kenyans must be treated equally,” he noted.

Criticism of Kenya Kwanza Empowerment Programmes

Governor Natembeya also dismissed Kenya Kwanza’s ongoing empowerment programmes, terming them a “mockery.” He argued that the distribution of funds and equipment has had little impact on livelihoods, describing the initiatives as tokenism without lasting solutions.

He emphasized that the Tawe Movement will continue to push for both political and economic reforms to ensure Western Kenya secures its rightful share of national development projects.
