Othoro, Homabay County – August 5, 2025
Tragedy struck Othoro village in Homabay County after a domestic disagreement escalated into a fatal incident. Police confirmed the death of Daniel Omondi, 42, following a violent altercation with his brother on August 2, 2025.
According to a police report filed at the local station, the brothers argued over food, which tragically ended with Omondi being fatally struck with an iron bar. The suspect fled the scene after the attack but was later arrested in Kaduke village, also located in Homabay.
“The body had two deep cuts to the head and a swollen mandible, indicating severe blunt force trauma,” said a local police officer.
Suspect Arrested Following Manhunt
After the incident, police launched a manhunt that culminated in the arrest of the suspect in Kaduke village. He is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name, but he is believed to be in his late 30s.
This case highlights a growing concern in Kenya regarding domestic disputes that escalate into violent crimes. Experts continue to urge for more mental health awareness and conflict resolution support, especially in rural communities.
Rising Cases of Domestic Violence in Kenya
This incident is the latest in a string of domestic violence cases in Kenya. In 2023 alone, the country recorded a significant rise in such cases, according to a report by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).
Organizations such as Amnesty International Kenya have been vocal about the urgent need for authorities to address family-related violence and promote peaceful conflict mediation mechanisms.
What Next for the Case
The body of Daniel Omondi was taken to a local mortuary where a post-mortem will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death. Police say the suspect will be charged with murder once investigations are completed.
