Nairobi, Kenya – August 5, 2025

A Nairobi matatu tout was stabbed to death following a heated argument with a colleague over the collection of passenger fees along Temple Road.

Dispute Turns Deadly Near Temple Road

The deceased, identified as Dick Otieno Ombaka, reportedly got into an altercation with a fellow tout on Sunday morning. According to Nairobi police commander George Seda, the two men—both working for a matatu Sacco operating along Juja Road—were arguing over who had the right to collect money from matatus picking up passengers at the busy Temple Road stop.

In the heat of the moment, Ombaka was allegedly stabbed in the chest by his colleague. He was rushed to MSF Hospital along Juja Road but was declared dead on arrival.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is known for providing emergency medical aid, including trauma care in high-risk zones like Nairobi’s urban neighborhoods.

Police Launch Manhunt for Suspect

After committing the fatal act, the assailant fled the scene and is currently on the run. Nairobi police confirmed that investigations are ongoing and a manhunt has been launched to bring the suspect to justice.

Ombaka’s body has since been transferred to the Mama Lucy Hospital Mortuary where a postmortem examination is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
