Star striker Ryan Wesley Ogam once again proved to be the difference-maker as Harambee Stars edged out Zambia’s Chipolopolo 1-0 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Sunday afternoon to secure a spot in the quarterfinals as Group ‘A’ leaders.
Ogam, who has now scored in back-to-back matches, struck the winner in the second half with a deft one-touch finish from his trademark left foot inside the box, sending the home crowd into wild celebrations.
The victory ensured Kenya finished top of Group ‘A’ with 10 points, setting up a quarterfinal clash against Madagascar at the same venue this Friday.
Morocco Progress as Runners-Up
In the other group fixture, Morocco defeated DR Congo 3-1 at the Nyayo National Stadium, sealing second place behind Kenya. The Atlas Lions will now face Group ‘B’ winners Tanzania in Dar es Salaam, also on Friday.
With momentum and home support on their side, Kenya will be banking on Ogam’s sharp form to keep their tournament dreams alive as they head into the knockout stage.
