Likoni, Mombasa County – July 31, 2025

Police in Likoni Sub-County, Mombasa, have recovered a variety of stolen items and suspected narcotics during a dramatic raid in the Soweto, JCC area, following a tip-off from concerned residents.

According to a statement by the National Police Service, law enforcement officers raided a house in the densely populated neighborhood and uncovered a stash of property believed to have been stolen in recent criminal incidents across the region.

Items Recovered in the Likoni Operation

The recovered items include:

  • Two television sets
  • A coffee maker
  • A laptop
  • Multiple gas cylinders
  • A jungle bag
  • Several national ID cards suspected to have been taken from robbery victims

Additionally, 38 rolls of cannabis (bhang) were discovered at the scene, raising concerns of possible drug trafficking operations in the area.

Two Suspects Arrested at Scene

Police arrested two suspects during the raid. They are currently in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

“This operation is a clear demonstration of what we can achieve when the public works hand-in-hand with law enforcement,” said a senior police officer involved in the operation.

Community Collaboration Credited for the Raid

The success of this operation has been attributed to vigilant locals who alerted authorities. This underscores the importance of community policing and joint efforts in tackling crime—a strategy also supported by agencies such as Interpol.

“We commend members of the public for their timely information. Such partnerships are key to eliminating crime,” added the officer.

Ongoing Crackdown on Crime and Narcotics

The National Police Service continues to urge the public to report any suspicious activities through hotlines or local police stations. Authorities emphasize that joint vigilance is crucial to securing neighborhoods, especially in urban settlements like Likoni.
