Police in Samburu are hunting for a 36-year-old man who killed his two children in a brutal domestic dispute before fleeing into the night.
Children Killed in Their Sleep
The horrifying incident occurred in the Yare area of Maralal, where the suspect allegedly used a knife to slit the throats of his children—a six-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy—while they slept in their beds.
Police reports indicate the killings happened shortly after the man returned home late at night and quarrelled with his wife.
Wife Survives Brutal Attack
During the altercation, the suspect stabbed his wife in the head. She, however, managed to escape and raise alarm. The woman is currently admitted to hospital in stable condition.
Manhunt Launched
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the lifeless bodies of the two children and the sheath of the weapon used. The bodies were transferred to the local mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, urging members of the public to provide any information that may lead to his arrest.
“This is a deeply disturbing case of domestic violence, and we will not relent until the suspect is brought to justice,” police said.
Rising Cases of Domestic Violence
The tragedy comes amid growing concerns about increasing cases of domestic violence in Kenya, with rights groups urging communities to seek peaceful dispute resolution and counselling services to prevent such extreme outcomes.
