At least thirteen people have died on the spot following a tragic road accident near Kikopey along the Nakuru–Nairobi highway.

Matatu Collides with Trailer

According to Nakuru County Police Commander Emmanuel Opuru, the victims were traveling in a 14-seater matatu when it collided head-on with a semi-trailer truck.

“The matatu was overtaking and then it rammed into the trailer causing 13 fatalities and three others seriously injured,” said Opuru.

The fatalities were taken to Gilgil Sub-County Mortuary, while the injured — including two children — were rushed to Gilgil Hospital for treatment.

Family Function Trip Turns Tragic

Reports indicate the group had hired the matatu in Nairobi and were headed to Nakuru for a family function when the accident occurred.

Police Launch Probe

Authorities have launched investigations to establish the circumstances of the deadly crash. The Nakuru–Nairobi route, part of the busy Northern Corridor, has been flagged by NTSA as one of the most dangerous highways in Kenya.
