Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has alleged that there are plans to attack him ahead of the burial of the late former Prime Minister and ODM party leader, Raila Amolo Odinga.
In a statement posted on his verified social media pages on Friday, the outspoken MP said he is aware of the individuals behind the alleged plot, though he did not disclose any names.
“There are plans to attack me on or before the day of Baba’s burial. I am aware of the culprits behind the scheme,” Babu Owino wrote.
“It is my prayer that we give Baba the befitting send-off that he deserves, devoid of unwarranted violence.”
Burial Preparations Underway in Bondo
The late Raila Odinga is set to be laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at his ancestral home in Bondo, Siaya County.
The funeral will be conducted under the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) traditions, with clergy from the diocese of Maseno West expected to preside over the ceremony.
Government officials, ODM leaders, and dignitaries from across the world are expected to attend the high-profile burial, which follows a week of national mourning declared by President William Ruto.
Security Tightened Ahead of State Burial
Security agencies have been put on high alert in Siaya and Kisumu Counties following concerns about possible unrest during the burial.
The National Police Service (NPS) has assured the public that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure peace and order as Kenyans converge to pay their final respects to the veteran politician, who died in Kerala, India, on October 15 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Police have also urged leaders and supporters to refrain from spreading unverified claims that could incite panic or disrupt the solemn national occasion.
