Police in Kiambu County are investigating the mysterious death of a 55-year-old driver who was found dead inside his lorry cabin along the Mai Mahiu–Nairobi Highway in the Mutarakwa area early Sunday morning.
According to police reports, the lorry’s engine was still running when concerned motorists noticed that the vehicle had stalled in traffic for an unusually long time.
Driver Found Motionless Behind the Wheel
The deceased, identified as Patrick Tsuma Okuon, was discovered unresponsive on the steering wheel by other drivers who stopped to check.
“The driver appeared to have died while still seated behind the steering wheel. The engine was on, and the gear was in neutral,” said a police officer from Mutarakwa.
Police officers who arrived at the scene confirmed the death and noted that several medications were found inside the cabin, suggesting that the driver might have been battling a health condition.
Investigations Underway
Authorities have moved the body to a local mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The lorry was towed to Mutarakwa Police Station as investigations continue.
The driver, who was alone at the time of the incident, was reportedly heading toward Nairobi from an unknown location. Police are also working to establish what cargo the vehicle was transporting.
