Makueni County, Kenya – October 2, 2025 – Residents of Chyandulu Village in Muuni Sub-Location, Nguumo Location were left in shock after a 29-year-old man reportedly mutilated his penis in a disturbing incident on Wednesday, October 1.

Family Raised Alarm After Horrific Discovery

According to police reports, the man allegedly used a sharp object to cut his private parts under circumstances that remain unclear. His 70-year-old father discovered him writhing in pain inside their home.

The father, assisted by another son, rushed the injured man to Makindu Sub-County Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.

Medical staff at the facility confirmed that the man had severed his penis and was undergoing emergency treatment.

Motive Still Unknown

The motive behind the shocking act remains unclear. Police say they have launched investigations to establish what may have triggered the tragedy.

Growing Mental Health Concerns

While the exact reasons for the act remain under probe, health experts warn that such incidents often point to underlying mental health struggles. According to the World Health Organization, mental health challenges remain a silent crisis in developing countries, with stigma and lack of access to services fueling tragedies.

Kenya has in recent years recorded an increase in cases of self-harm and suicide, sparking calls for more investment in mental health support. For related coverage, see our health news section.
