Kajiado County, Kenya – October 3, 2025 – Tension is high in Kibiko, Kajiado County, after renewed clashes over the disputed 2,600-acre Keekonyokie land, leaving at least one person injured and a vehicle torched in retaliatory attacks.
Retaliatory Attacks Escalate Violence
According to local reports, violence flared on Wednesday night, with rival factions attacking each other and torching property. One family counted heavy losses after their car was set ablaze.
Security officials rushed to the area, camping overnight to prevent further bloodshed.
Government Deploys Police to Contain Situation
On Thursday, the government deployed additional police officers to quell tensions as both groups vowed not to vacate the contested land.
Kajiado West Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Lydia Munyi led a security operation in the area. She urged residents to remain calm while authorities work toward a resolution.
“We are calling on both factions to exercise restraint as the government engages stakeholders to find a lasting solution,” Munyi said.
Title Deed Controversy Deepens Rift
The clashes stem from long-standing disputes over ownership, with reports indicating that the government has already distributed title deeds to one of the groups, sparking resistance from the other.
Both factions are said to be arming themselves. This has heightened fears of a larger confrontation if a resolution is not reached soon.
Security personnel remain on high alert in Kibiko, as elders and leaders from the Keekonyokie community push for dialogue.
